ホームページを更新することがアクセス向上につながるのか？
先週のメルマガの編集後記には、筆者がURLについて、書いた
ことを受けて、”情報の更新がないと当然アクセスは減ります”と
編集人は書いていた。さて、今回は、それについて考えてみたい。
一般的には、ホームページのアクセスを上げるためには、頻繁に
更新して、見るたびに新しい情報が出ているのがいいと言われている。
確かに、頻繁に更新することで、アクセスが向上するのは、事実だろう。
しかし、その更新するというのも、”ユーザにとって有益な更新”
でないと意味がない。この点を取り違えていることが多く、ホーム
ページの運用ルールに、”毎月更新する”というような項目を入れて、
”で、今月、なんか新しいニュースない？”という会議が行われ、
”んー... 今月は新製品の発表もないし、特にイベントもないから、
季節に合わせた色に変えて、挨拶の言葉を入れるか...”といった
結論になるのが落ちである。
また、リニューアルと称して、ページのデザインをがらっと変える
こともあり、そして、確かに、一時的にアクセスが増える。しかし、
これは、冷静に判断すると、ページ構成が変わってしまうので、今まで
見ていた情報がどこにあるのか分からないので、探し回っているだけ
なのかもしれない。そう、スーパーや百貨店で、改装して、商品棚の
配置が変わると、どこに何があるのか分からなくて、店内をうろうろして、
店に滞留している時間が長くなり、客が増えたように感じるだけなの
かもしれない。
ホームページを作って公開する前に、定期的に更新していくような
情報があるのか、そもそも、それによって、売り上げが伸びるのかを
しっかりと見極めておかなければならない。定期的に更新するという
ルールを作ってしまうと、更新のために無理に情報を作らないといけ
なくなり、さらに、そのためのコストが掛かって、かつ、そんな情報は
ユーザにとっても価値を見出せないから、売り上げにも貢献できないと
いう悪循環になってしまう。自社のビジネスは何がメインなのか、ホーム
ページでどんな情報提供することがユーザにとって意味があるのか、また、
更新するといっても、そもそも更新する必要があるのかということも
しっかりと検討しなければならない。こういう議論を抜きにして、
”更新頻度が高いホームページは、アクセスが増える”ということをだけで、
”毎月更新する”という方法論だけが決まり、月末になると、先に書いた
ような無意味な会議をすることになる。これでは、本末転倒である。
ホームページのアクセス数を上げるためのノウハウ本がいろいろ出て
いるが、そんな方法論に頼るのではなく、あくまでも、ビジネスの原点に
戻って、何のために情報提供するのかを議論すべきだろう。
