ホームページのインターフェイスは難しい
世の中には、次々と新しいサービスが展開されてくるが、その
ユーザインターフェイスを設計するのは、非常に難しい。特に、
ホームページで販売やサービスを行う場合、そこに書く内容も
重要だが、インターフェイスが問題になる。今回は、そのユーザ
インターフェイスについて考えてみたい。
コンピュータの画面のインターフェイスは、ウィンドウやアイコン
などで表示するので、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェイス
（GUI、ジー・ユー・アイ、または、グイと読む）と言われている。
このGUIは、人間工学や感性工学といった分野から検討されて、
どうすれば、直感的に分かりやすくするかということで、いろいろな
GUIが編み出されている。例えば、丸いものは押したくなる、突っつき
たくなるという気持ちになるので、そういうデザインで押しボタンを
表現したりする。また、注意を喚起する場合は、赤で表示するように、
心理学を応用して作られている。
しかし、この手のGUIを作るのは、それなりの経験が必要なので、
プロのデザイナーに任せるしかない。
と、書いてしまうと、”じゃあ、今回のタイトルは何なのだ！”と
思われるだろう（笑）。デザイナーは、確かにGUIのプロであり、使い
やすさを考慮して、デザインを作ってくれるだろうが、その前に重要
なのは、そのデザイナーに何を頼むかを明確にしておかないといけない
のである。あくまでも、こちらが主体で何をユーザに提供するのかを
はっきりしておかないと、デザイナーも作るのに困ってしまうのだ。
GUIで決める上で考えておかないといけないのは、下記の３つでは
ないだろうか？
１）誰に見せるのか？
あまりにも当たり前すぎるのだが、これを明確にするというのは思った
ほど簡単ではない。年齢層や性別、また、コンピュータやインターネット
に関して初心者なのか、それなりに使える人をターゲットにするのかで、
GUIの作り方も変わってくる。ホームページを使って、どんな人にアピール
するのかをしっかりと決めておかないと、デザインが受け入れられず、
そこから先へ進んでくれないという結果を招く。
２）どこまで連れて行くのか？
曖昧な書き方をしているが、ホームページでどこまでユーザとのやり
とりをするかということである。例えば、商品の告知で留めるのか、
来店を促すのか、それとも、ホームページ上で購入までさせるのかで、
インターフェイスは、まったく異なったものになってくる。
特に購入まで勧めるには、そこまでスムーズに操作できないと、途中で
”面倒だ”とか、”不安になる”などがあると、購入するところまで完結
しない。支払い方法や、商品の発注画面のつくりは非常に重要になる。
３）運用者の画面は？
案外、忘れられてしまうのだが、GUIは、ユーザだけのものではなく、
商品やサービスを提供する管理者側のGUIもあるのだ。例えば、ユーザ
からの問い合わせで、注文したのに商品が届かないとか、ログインしようと
してパスワードを忘れたといった場合には、管理者画面で確認しないと
いけない。この管理者画面が分かりにくいGUIになっていると、スムーズな
対応ができなくなり、ユーザの評判が落ちるのは明らかである。
特に、この管理者画面は、必ずしも、コンピュータに詳しい人が操作する
とは限らないので、分かりやすいGUIが求められるから注意が必要だ。
運用のGUIで難しいところは、操作ミスを防ぐようにすることだろう。
ユーザ情報の変更や削除が、ボタン一つでできるようになっていると、
誤ってクリックして、大事な顧客データを一瞬で消してしまうという
ミスも起きる。それを防ぐには、実際にデータを操作する前に、確認の
メッセージを表示して、Okを押さないと操作できないとか、変更や削除は、
別の画面に移動し、さらに、その画面の色を変えて、操作している人に
視覚的に違うことをしているという意識を喚起するようなデザインにすると
いった工夫が必要である。
ビルや駅にある非常ボタンは赤で目立つようになっているが、そのボタン
はプラスチックなどでカバーされていて、誤って押したり、小さい子供が
面白半分で押すようなことのないようにできている。そういう工夫をして
おかないと、取り返しのつかないことになる。
特に個人情報の扱いが難しくなっている昨今、管理者画面については、
慎重に検討しておかないと、会社が傾くほどの大問題につながることもある。
最近では、会員情報の一覧表示させないとか、オペレータには、最低限の
情報しか見せないようにするなどの工夫をするようになっている。
このようにGUIを考える上では、実際に誰が使うのか、また、どんな運用を
するのかを検討しておかないと、後々、使いにくいものになってしまう。
それらを曖昧にしてデザイナーやホームページ作成業者に任してしまうと、
こちらの意図しているものと違ってしまい、何度も何度も作り変えることに
なって、結果的に時間もコストも無駄に使ってしまうことになるのだ。
やはりここでも、ITを使うためには、そのコンピュータの前にいる”相手”
を意識しないといけないのである。
