ＩＴ社会で主体性を持つことができるか？
今回は、いきなり哲学的なタイトルをつけてしまったが、とある
勉強会で、面白い話を聴いたので、紹介したいと思う。京都大学の
大澤先生の話なのだが、人間というものは、実は、主体性を持って
いるようで、実は他者によって決められていく、また、それを受け
入れていくということだった。そして、それによって、このＩＴ社会は、
非常に面白い実験場になっているという。ちょっとややこしい話だが、
数回に渡って説明してみたいと思う。
いきなり、歴史の話になるが、旧ソ連のスターリン体制の時代、
粛清が行われる。その中では、反体制といわれる人を強制逮捕し、
処刑していくのである。上層部から、”2,500人反体制がいるから、
逮捕しろ！”という指示がでると、2,499人でもなく、2,501人でもなく、
ぴったり2,500人を逮捕するのである。多いと、反体制でない者を逮捕
したと批判され、少なければ、捜査が手ぬるいと責められるので、
ぴったりの数にするのだ。
しかし、実際は、そんなぴったりの数の反体制の人物が捕まるわけが
ないから、関係ない人達まで捕まってしまう。当然、最初は、なぜ
逮捕されるのか分からない。しかし、当局が”でっち上げた”理由で、
反体制派であると何度も何度も言われているうちに、”ひょっとしたら
自分は、反体制なのか？”と思うようになり、最終的には、納得して
処刑されてしまうのだ。１００万とも言われる犠牲者がいるのに、誰も、
最後まで”俺は関係ない！無罪だ！”と言って処刑されたものはいない
ということらしい。
ここに実は、人間の主体性の危うさが含まれている。自分で主体性を
持っていると思っていても、客観的な主体を押し付けられたとき、
例えば、”お前は、昨日、競争相手の業者の連中と飲んでただろう？
それはこちらの極秘情報を売っていたのではないのか？”といった容疑を
掛けられていくと、どんどんそこに囚われてしまって、最終的には、
自分は、本当は、産業スパイをやろうとしていたのかもしれないと思い
込んでしまうのだ。
そんなこと、ありえない！と思う読者は多いだろう。しかし、先の
スターリン体制の例もあるように、実は、すごく人間の主体性は危うい。
社会問題になる新興宗教団体も、いまだに活動を停止しないし、それ
どころか、新たに信者になる人もいる。ありえないと思っていることが、
実は、目の前で起きている。そのことに気がついていないだけなのだ。
それほど、主体などというものは、危うい存在なのである。
そこまで大げさではなくても、会社で上司に、”だから、おまえは
駄目なんだ”と言われて、”そうだ、俺は、駄目なんだ”と落ち込む
という経験を持っている人も多いのではないだろうか？これも、主体の
なさの一つだろう。他者に言われることで納得して、自分の主体と思って
しまうのだ。
これは、ＩＴ社会では、非常に大きな問題になる。つまり、データ
ベースに蓄えられた”客観的なデータ”が、自分の信じている主体と
食い違っていた場合に、どちらが優先されるのか？ということである。
先の理屈からすると、どうしても、データベースに蓄えられたデータが
正しいということになってしまう可能性が高いのだ。
次回は、もう少し、突っ込んで考えてみたい。
