携帯電話と家電から目が離せない
前回は、ITに関連する法律に関して書いたが、今回は、気になる
業界の動きを見てみよう。去年からのソフトバンクが電話回線会社や
携帯電話会社へのアプローチして、マスコミを賑わせている。また、
デジタル家電と言われる家電業界がITと結びついて元気になりそうで
ある。この２つの点で見てみよう。
携帯電話は、カメラが付いたり、テレビやラジオ、音楽も聴くこと
ができる。さらに、クレジット機能も追加され、財布を持たなくても
買い物ができたり、電子チケットを受け取ることで、入場券や交通
機関にも乗れるようにもなってきてる。もう携帯『電話』とは、
言えない状態であり、情報端末＋クレジットカードのようなものに
なってきている。
携帯電話は、個人に直接アプローチできる唯一の通信機器であり、
それ故に、いろいろなサービスや機能が追加されてくるのだろう。
パソコンがいくら『パーソナル・コンピュータ』だとはいえ、外を
歩きながら使うのは、まだまだできないし、そもそも、仕事以外で
ノートパソコンを持って歩く人は、よほどのマニアでしかないのが
現実だ。
そう考えると、今年は、より通信機能が充実して、今まで考えられ
ないようなサービスが出てくるだろう。今までは、通信速度と、携帯
電話に持たせることができるデータサイズの制限から、巨大なデータを
持つことができなかったが、すべてサーバ上に置いておいて、必要な
ときに引っ張り出すということができる。後は、画面サイズの問題と、
入力操作の課題が解決されれば、パソコンなど誰も持たなくなるかも
しれない。
さらに、先にも書いたが、ソフトバンクが携帯電話会社を買収する
ことで、価格競争にいっそう拍車がかかることになり、劇的に安く
なるかもしれない。ソフトバンクがインターネット接続業者として
名乗りをあげて、強烈な価格競争の結果、世界一高いと言われていた
インターネット接続料金が、あっという間に、世界一安い接続料金へと
変わってしまったように。
さて、携帯電話がこれほど高性能になり、さらに、利用料金が
下がってくるとなると、何が起きるのか？ ここからは、筆者の独断の
世界だか（笑）、家電と携帯電話との組み合わせが出てくると思って
いる。今までも、外から家の中の家電を操作するということは、
あるのはあったのだが、普及していない。考えれば当たり前で、
外から操作するのに制限が多かったからである。これが携帯電話の
画面で操作できれば、利用者は増えてくるだろう。さらに、家で録画
しているテレビ番組を携帯電話で見るとか、携帯電話で撮影している
動画をそのまま家の録画デッキに転送するといったことも可能になる。
そうすれば、ビデオテープを何本も持っていく必要がなくなるし、
携帯のカメラ機能で撮影した画像も家のパソコンへ転送すれば、
メモリが一杯になることもない。
さらに、携帯電話を家の玄関に取り付けたり、部屋の中に取り付ける
だけで、簡単に監視カメラも作ることができる。しかも、動画を家の
録画デッキ、いや、ネットワーク上のサーバとかに転送してしまえば、
高価な専用機も必要なくなるだろう。
このように通信インフラが変わることで、今までは到底実用に
耐えなかったものも、一気に実用化でき、また、手軽に使えるように
なってくる。今年は、携帯電話がどんなものと組み合わされてくるのか、
また、デジタル家電が、ネットワークとどのように融合するのかが
非常に面白くなりそうである。
