事務機器、通信機器の廃棄で注意することは？？
前回は、情報を記録したCDやDVDなどを廃棄する場合に、どの
ようなことに気をつけないといけないか？ということについて
考えてみた。さて、今回は、ちょっと考えると気が付くのだが、
案外、落とし穴になるのではないかと筆者が気にしている事務
機器や通信機器について考えてみたい。
eー文書法（＊１）が施行されることを睨んで、コピーメーカ
などが、いろんな新しい機能が付いたコピー機を出してきている。
また、デジタル・ドキュメント管理のアプリケーションやシステム
を提供しているメーカも、あっちこっちでセミナーなどを行い、
必死でこの法律に対する対応を説明している。
しかし、気をつけないといけないのは、デジタル化されたドキュ
メントだけではない。家の電話機でも、住所録の機能が付いていて、
親戚やよくかける知り合いの電話番号を登録しているだろう。
ましてや、企業のビジネスフォンの場合は、もっと沢山の取引先を
登録しているに違いない。そして、これらの電話機は、多少の停電
では、メモリも消えないようになっている。ということは、この
機器を廃棄するときには、メモリを消去しないと、どうなるのか？
想像すると、少し怖いものがある。
FAX機でも同様で、取引先の電話や担当者の名前など登録している
だろうし、壊れたり、古くなったら、何も気にせずに廃棄していない
だろうか？
携帯電話の場合は、新機種に交換する場合には、そういう点を気に
しているだろうし、店頭で古い機種を回収しているので、まず漏えい
することは無いだろう。しかし、固定電話機や、ビジネスフォン、
FAX機では、あまり気にしていないのではないだろうか？
さて、これが、通信機器になると、もっとやっかいである。
最近は、ADSLは当たり前、光ファイバーも導入しているところは多い
だろう。ちゃんとしたエンジニアがいるところは、担当者が管理して
いるので、あまり問題にはならないだろうが、そうでないところは、
最初に誰かに設定してもらったら、それ以降、何も触っていない、
いや、誰も触らないというのが実情だろう。
しかし、その通信機器、もっと限定していうと、ブロードバンド・
ルータには、プロバイダーに接続するためのIDやパスワードを設定
している。にも関わらず、ルータの設定画面にアクセスするパス
ワードを忘れるからといって、マニュアルに書き込んでいたり、
あるいは、初期設定のままで使っていないだろうか？そして、
これらの情報は、先のFAX機などと同じで、電源を抜いていても、
簡単には消えないようになっている。となると、これらの機器も
廃棄する場合には、リセットするなり、初期化するといった作業を
しておかないと、使っているプロバイダーのIDやパスワードを
盗まれることになってしまうのである。
事務機器や通信機器が便利になっていくのはいいのだが、その
一方で、それらの機器を廃棄する場合には、その中にどんな情報が
入っているのかを認識しておかないと、とんでもないことになり
かねない。ぜひ、マニュアルをよく読んで、初期化して廃棄する
ようにしたいものである。
さて、ちょっと脇道に逸れすぎた内容になってしまったが、次回は、
個人情報が漏えいした場合のリスクについて考えてみよう。
