律儀なコンピュータ
コンピュータを知らない人というのは、大きく二つの意見に分かれる
ような気がする。一つは、”コンピュータなんて所詮、機械。そんなもん
で、商売ができるわけがない！”という完全否定の考え方と、その対
極の”コンピュータは、計算がとんでもなく速くて、しかも電気さえ確保
できれば２４時間３６５日休まず働く。これを使わない手は無い！”と
いったどちらかというとコンピュータ万能主義のような意見である。
さて、今回は、後者のコンピュータ万能主義の陥りやすい罠につい
て述べてみよう。
コンピュータの進歩は目覚しく、また、コンピュータと組み合わせる各
種センサーも発達してきているので、今まで考えられなかったような使
い方も出てきている。例えば、IDとして使えるマイクロチップなどは、目
に見えないぐらい小さなものになってきており、布の中に織り込んでしま
うことができる。これによって、ネクタイや洋服などの衣類にまでICタグ
を埋め込むことができて、ブランドの本物か偽物かを瞬時に判別できる
ようなこともできるようになっている。
また、マラソンランナーの靴にICタグを埋め込み、各ポイントにセンサ
ーを敷き詰めて、選手が通過した時間を測定し、ラップタイムや順位な
どをリアルタイムに表示できるような仕組みもある。
このような仕組みを見ていると、なんでもできそうな気がするのも無理
は無い。
しかし、困ったことにコンピュータは、計算と記憶、そして、繰り返し作
業にはめっぽう威力を発揮するのだが、今までにないルールを構築す
るとか、新しい創意工夫をするということにはからっきし弱い。つまり、
きめ細かいルールを決めておかないと、コンピュータは馬鹿がつくぐらい
決められた通りにしか動作しないので、曖昧なルールで成り立っている
ものには何の役にも立たないのである。
会社の中の業務でも、業務ルールは決まっているが、業務を進めてい
くうちに、そのルールに従うだけでなく、別の方法ですばやく結論を出さな
いといけないこともある。例えば、いつも大きな取引をしている得意先から
の注文なら、無理をしてでも商品を取り付けないといけない場合、先に工
場や倉庫に電話して商品を確保し、後付けで発注書を出すようなことも
ある。
ところが、こういうところにコンピュータを導入し、例外的な処理が一切
できないようにしてしまうと、律儀なコンピュータは、発注書を受け付けて
からでないと工場や倉庫に生産や納品の処理ができないようになってし
まうので、逆に売上が落ちてしまうことにもなりかねない。
IT化でコンピュータを導入するには、まずは、自社の業務のルールを見
直し、例外の流れがどこまでできてしまっているのか、また、それを禁止
することで売上に影響しないのかといったことを検討しなくてはならない。
また、こういったことは、やり手の営業マンのノウハウであったりするから、
なかなか難しいのも事実である。
