コンピュータの相性？？
パソコンを買って、いろいろ使い始めると、興味が広がってい
く人は、デジカメの画像を印刷するのにプリンターを繋いだり、
カメラを繋いで、ビデオ電話をやったりと、機器をつなぐように
なる。
しかし、カタログやマニュアルに記載されている規格では、絶
対に接続できるはずなのに、どういう訳かうまくいかなかったり、
あるメーカのものに限って、トラブルが多いといったことがある。
メーカのサポートに問い合わせて、言われたとおりに設定しても、
うんともすんとも動かず、”相性ですかねぇ”と言われてしまう
ことがある。
デジタルの世界で、すべて論理的に作られているのだが、どう
いう訳か、アナログというか、人間関係のように”相性”という
不思議な現象が起きるのである。あるメーカとあるメーカだけで、
うまくつながらないとか、あるバージョンだけ、どうしても設定
がうまくいかないアプリケーションがあるなど、こればかりは、
”相性”としか言いようのない現象に遭遇することがあるのである。
細かい話になるが、厳密に調べれば、それぞれの機器のほんの
少しのズレが重なって、大きな違いになって接続できなくなるの
だろうが、個々の部品や、機器を調べても、規格範囲内であるの
で、なかなか原因を特定するのは難しいことが多い。
今後、ＡＤＳＬや光ファイバーなどが広がってきて、ネットワ
ーク機器類、さらに、ネットワーク家電も家庭に入ってくるよう
になるが、”相性”という問題があることを意識して、購入前に
は、十分に検討しないと、無駄な買い物になるだろう。また、悲
しいかな、今の時点では、この”相性”の問題を避けるには、広
く使われている製品、同じメーカの製品を選ぶぐらいしか、避け
て通る道はないのが現実である。
